COASTAL EROSION

This is a problem that affects the Village of Kyleakin as a whole.

We have tidal influences that affect not only the Foreshore and Harbour, but also the tidal inlet of An t'Obbe.

Over recent years it has been noted that the Tides have been increasing in size, frequently flooding the area to the front of the Bright Water Centre and becoming perilously close to overwhelming the Car Park.

UNLESS WE ACT NOW - PARTS OF THE VILLAGE MAY BECOME AN ISLAND

We are in talks with a Company that specialise in Gabion Sea Wall Defences with a view to applying for Lottery Funding to erect a suitable Sea Wall Defensive system along the whole of the Foreshore and parts of An t'Obbe that may be at risk from further erosion and flooding.

At present we actually have an area of Beach on the Foreshore!  This is a result of extremely strong tides ripping out the boulders and shingle from the shore by the Haakon Bar and depositing them somewhere else.

It has been noted that the Land Girt by the Boathouse by Ewan's Wildlife Garden is actually getting bigger and extending out into the Kyle Akin.
